Executive Coaching

Coaching for leaders who carry more than the job description.

Dennis Maurice specializes in supporting leaders with marginalized identities to navigate change, culture, and capacity — with a practice that is effective, evidence-based, liberated, and efficient.

A racial equity leader for a decade, Dennis has coached teams through his consultancy since 2019 and leaders and executives since 2022 — including leaders at William Way LGBT Community Center, Cooper Rivers & Co., Let's Get Ready, and Diaspora DNA Story Center.

Purpose

Catching those of us who often fall through the cracks.

Marginalized leaders frequently operate under the glass cliff — appointed to leadership roles during crises — or face disproportionate scrutiny where a single mistake carries outsized consequences for their careers and the communities they represent. They also navigate the "identity tax": the emotional and cognitive load of code-switching, managing microaggressions, and balancing authenticity with corporate norms.

Leaders holding intersecting marginalized identities — BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, leaders with disabilities, and first-generation executives — face distinct operational, structural, and psychological challenges that traditional, one-size-fits-all coaching often misses.

The Practice

Four pillars of partnership.

01

1:1 Leadership Coaching for Leaders Making Decisions of Consequence

A critical, confidential container to process high-stakes decisions without defaulting to burnout, manage the imposter/insider narratives imposed by systemic bias, and build unshakeable executive presence rooted in authenticity rather than assimilation.

02

Leadership Team Development

Helping leadership teams establish true equity of voice, dismantle unexamined cultural biases in decision-making, and create inclusive accountability structures — shifting the burden of inclusion off the marginalized leader and onto the collective leadership ecosystem.

03

Talent, Transition, and Transformation

A strategic partnership in designing equitable talent pipelines, supporting leadership onboarding during critical career transitions, and ensuring institutional transformations do not inadvertently erode diversity, equity, and inclusion gains. We also explore ethics, technology & AI, and other emerging innovations that teams are navigating.

04

Coaching Externally Facing Teams on Revenue, Rebranding, and Retrenchment

People of diverse identities face barriers in externally facing roles due to bias, prejudice, and beliefs others hold — and we sometimes internalize those beliefs ourselves. This pillar equips client-facing teams to navigate high-stakes market volatility with resilience and cultural competence, keeping revenue strategies and rebranding narratives inclusive and avoiding the cultural missteps that alienate diverse consumer bases or damage stakeholder trust during retrenchment.

Executive Director, The William Way LGBT Community Center

Working with Dennis has been invaluable to me as an executive leader. I began working with him during one of the most complex periods in my organization’s history, when we were navigating operating deficits of approximately $50,000 per month and simultaneously facing decisions connected to a proposed $37 million development project. Dennis helped me step outside of the immediate pressures, understand the larger strategic picture, and develop a clearer approach to organizational sustainability, governance, and executive decision-making.

His coaching has been both strategic and practical. At a time when one month alone reflected a $113,000 operating loss and a $118,000 decrease in cash, Dennis helped me think critically about risk, cash flow, organizational priorities, board dynamics, and the difference between pursuing an ambitious vision and ensuring the organization has the financial foundation to sustain it. His support helped me move from simply reacting to challenges to developing a strategy for addressing them.

What I value most about Dennis is his ability to understand the complexities of leadership while still pushing you toward clarity and action. He has helped strengthen how I approach difficult decisions, communicate with stakeholders, anticipate risk, and lead through significant organizational change. Having a trusted advisor who can challenge my thinking while helping me develop a concrete path forward has made Dennis an incredibly valuable coach and strategic partner.
